2-D shmups in arena style combat

Here is a video from Garakudou, who uses some kind of Gamemaker/modelling type program to create new games. This video features the Vic Viper in a 3-D environment, with the same familiar powerups and weapon system. There is also an R-Type version on his Youtube Channel page.

Battleships Forever: Warning Forever RTS!

First we get R-Type Tactics, now comes Battleships Forever: a real time strategy game based on the world of Warning Forever. Created by WYRDYSM GAMES, Forever uses elements such as piecemeal ships and rotating attack angles to faithfully recreate the WF experience. You can customize your armada before starting a level, and each ship serves a different purpose. I have just started playing this and find it really fun! Are shmup/stragegy games the wave of the future?

Thanks to TIGSource for the story, and download the game here.

NCSX Skygirl version Vic Viper Preorder

I knew after seeing the official page for the Skygirl Vic Viper figure that someone would pick it up for import sale, and that site would be NCSX. The preorder is $45 plus shipping, and it's expected in stock by late December.

Since my Hobbyfan Viper from 13B/Spectre's got cancelled, this is the easiest version of Konami's flagship to obtain. The design has been reworked a bit for Skygirls, but it's still the good ole Viper. Preorder page is here.

Studio Siesta marketing to the US!

Studio Siesta is working on an English version of Trouble Witches, which translates into Tomboyish Witches! Even though the software is going through the change, I don't know exactly how they are going to distribute the product outside of Japan. I assume it will be online......

The Japanese version plays fine on a US Pc, however I must applaud Studio Siesta for recognizing the doujin market outside of Japan and making an effort to suppily us. Hopefully more doujins will follow suit.

Star Soldier R for Wii Ware

Star Soldier R has been announced for Nintendo's Wii Ware. What this means is that it won't be a disc based retail game, but rather a downloadable title from Nintendo's upcoming indy friendly marketplace. Will it still hold up against a "real" title? Time will tell...........

Online Korean shmups

Bad news for the online pc shmup fans: Beast Master has been cancelled. First time you are hearing about this game? I'm not surprised. Screenshots of what could have been can be found here. Doesn't look like we're missing all that much.

Good news for the MMOSTG fans - Valkyrie Sky by Yolim Communication. This game is a hybrid MMO and shmup, and the concept looks really cool. The shooter parts remind me of Shikigami no Shiro a bit, and could use some upgrading, however the concept of VS is just what the genre needs in my opinion. Check out the story here. Also, the 300+ meg movie has been converted to a more friendly format for your viewing pleasure.

Both games via Canned Dogs.

Things are slow.......

Not much to mention right now on the news front, so I guess I'll mention the Guitar Hero project, which is in full swing. I joked about it before, but I have enough songs to make a kind of "Guitar Hero Shmups Edition" custom mod. Here's the setlist so far:

Lords of Thunder - Item Shop
Lords of Thunder - Dezant by Vertexguy
Power Up! (Gradius 1+3 remix) by Prozax R-Type level 6 remix by unknown
Section Z remix by Ryan 8bit
Galloping Thunder (Raiden) by Master Hatchet
R Type 3 stage 1 remix by unknown
Sapphire track 5
Lords of Thunder track 21 (ending)
DoDonPachi stage 1/4 soundtrack

I'm exactly halfway done, five of the charts are built and replaced in the Guitar Hero game, with the other five in progress. If anyone has any more suggestions for songs (and can locate the mp3!), send them my way.
